Year 6: PSHE & Online Safety

November 24, 2020

Over the last week, Year 6 have had a real focus on PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education). Together, we have discussed what it means to be kind; how we can be kind and if we cannot be kind, how we should act.

Additionally, we have also focused on social media- how it should be used; how it should not be used; age restrictions (and why they are put in place) and the appropriateness of apps. We have found out the age restrictions of apps that children talk about frequently and shared these with them (13 years for Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and Snapchat; 16 for Whatsapp). The children identified how they should respond if they are unhappy or worried about something they have received from someone on these platforms- we spoke about telling a responsible adult either inside or outside of school and how someone can be blocked if unkind behaviour continues.

We will continue to discuss these topics with the children and hope that the children become more aware of the positive behaviour they can uphold when trying to be kind to someone else and when using online platforms.

Every Wednesday, Hacton posts a #WakeUpWednesday blog to keep our school community updated.
