Happy Birthday Mrs Leslie

Hacton Primary is a caring community where everyone is valued. We believe it is important to show our appreciation and support for each other; this is true for both pupils and staff. It's a special birthday for our Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Leslie, so staff and pupils wanted to remind her how much she is valued.

Our whole school assembly was interrupted by a mini flash mob of Year 6 pupils and staff who danced and sang to 'Happy Birthday' by Stevie Wonder. At lunchtime, staff had another surprise for the birthday girl: a tea party in the Small Hall. In a heartfelt speech Mrs Leslie said: "I'm really, really touched and I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to spend my 30th with."

Happy Birthday Mrs Leslie! We hope you've had great fun at school today and enjoy the rest of your birthday celebrations.

Key Stage 2 Maths Challenge Winner

Congratulations to the winner of last week's Maths Challenge. The challenge was to create a story behind the question 215 - 129 = ? Our magnificent mathematician from Year 4 wrote: "I was playing with my dogs. I set a target for 215m for the Frisbee to be thrown. I only managed to throw it 129m. How many metres more should I have thrown my Frisbee? Answer 86m." We were very impressed with how clearly this answer applied maths to a real world situation. Great work!

"We had to come up with a story to match the sum. I did the Maths Challenge because I like making up stories. Miss Muskett called my name out in best work assembly. When she called out my name I was, like, don't clap the winner because it's you! I felt really happy. I won a certificate and a little packed of chewy sweets. I shared them with my friends. When I told Mummy she said, 'Oh wow! Well done!'"

Thank You Sainsbury's

Thank you to Sainsbury's in Hornchurch for their kind donation of 29 'Mog's Christmas Calamity' books. Our Key Stage One children were very excited to receive this fantastic literacy resource: they had to start reading them straight away!

Key Stage 2 Maths Challenge Winner

Congratulations to the winner of last week's Maths Challenge. Our worthy winner gave the correct answer to a 4 step problem: £200.

"The Maths Challenge took about 5 minutes to work out - I found it pretty easy. I like short, sharp questions. Miss Muskett called my name out in Best Work Assembly. Well, I felt quite surprised. I was very delighted that I'd won out of all the juniors. I went up to get my certificate and chocolate bar (Dairy Milk chocolate popping candy). At break time I ate it all up, sharing it with my friends. Mum and Dad said, 'really good'."
