TTRS Winners (w/c 26th September)

To run alongside our Times Table Journey, we have introduced Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) to help our children to develop a secure understanding and quick recall of their times table and division facts.

Each week, class teachers will select a child in their class to enter the TTRS draw. At random, one child in KS1 and one child in KS2 will be chosen to win a prize.

To be in with a chance, you need to be regularly using Times Tables Rock Stars: Play (ttrockstars.com). Good luck!

Here are this week's winners!

Achievements of the Week (w/c 26th September)

Congratulations to our Times Table winners this week! These pupils have hopped aboard the Times Table train to continue their journey to becoming a Times Table Champion. They have worked exceptionally hard to learn and master their multiplication and division facts.

Congratulations to our Reading and Poetry Superstrs this week! To achieve this award, all of these children have either read poems or books by their year group authors (Bronze is 5, Silver is 10 and Gold is 15). A big well done to this week's winners who have demonstrated great commitment and dedication to reading.

Our Achievements of the Week winners should be very proud of their success!

Nursery: The Colour Monster

This week, our Nursery children have been listening to the story of 'The Colour Monster'. Through using the book, the children have explored and discussed the different emotions of the monster and have even copied some of his facial expressions! We have had lots of fun learning about the colours, particularly getting messy in the yellow shaving foam and dancing with the streamers to happy music. To mark the end of our topic this week, we planted some yellow flowers in our outdoor area and we're all very excited to watch them grow.

E for Effort Winners (w/c 26th September)

In order to reward our pupils who have gone above and beyond in their learning each week and put in extra effort, each class teacher chooses one pupil to receive the E for Effort cup and certificate.

Here are this week's individual winners. Well done - we are very proud of you all!

Year 2: Forest School

It has been another exciting week at Forest School and the first that the children have experienced in the rain! There were lots of exciting mud creations in the mud kitchen and the children were very creative when building their shelters from the rain!

Well done for another great week. I wonder what week 3 will bring?

School Council Representatives 2022

The School Council is the voice of our pupils. It aims to improve our school while ensuring all decision making is fair and democratic. Our School Council representatives have the responsibility of listening to their peers and ensuring that everyone's opinions and views are heard and discussed.

Our School Council members are very much looking forward to an exciting year of discussion, decision making and democracy. They have now received their badges and are wearing them with pride.

Year 1: Literacy

It has been a busy week for Year 1! As part of our Literacy topic, we have been reading Jill Murphy's 'A Quiet Night in'. Not only have the children produced some excellent writing using their finger spaces, they have also visited 'Noun Town'. Year 1 now know that a noun is a naming word for a person, place or thing. They really enjoyed looking at a 'busy' picture and writing down as many nouns as they could, using their phonics to spell the words. Great teamwork skills were used and some of the pairs wrote down more than 20 nouns!

Provision: Allotment Visit

Yesterday, Mrs Murphy's group had the experience of visiting Mrs Bushnell's allotment where they were able to pick fruit and vegetables and plant some onion bulbs. After a morning of picking tomatoes, peppers, beetroots, potatoes and carrots, they enjoyed a picnic of chocolate and beetroot cake and apple and pear cake with juice.

Hacton's House and Vice House Captains 2022

Our assembly this morning included the big reveal of this year's House and Vice House Captains. Bravely, many of our Year 6 children put themselves forward to be considered for the role during our election process and they should all be incredibly proud of the motivating words they shared. However, as with all elections, there has to be a winner.

It is our pleasure to congratulate the new House Captains and Vice House Captains who have the honour of leading their house for this academic year. Well done!

Year 2: Colouring Club

Our Year 2 children were invited to their first drawing club session during lunch today. They carefully followed a set of instructions to create the masterpieces below! Well done, Year 2!

Nursery: Forest School Walk

This week, our Nursery children put on their wellington boots and went off on a walk to explore our amazing Forest School area. Along the way, we found lots of acorns on the ground which the children collected and later used to showcase their amazing counting skills.

As we walked back to the Nursery, the children were excited to see the variety of birds that visit our school field and we even had time to explore the sunflowers that our children planted last year.

Music Assembly

This half term, we have been listening to a vast array of popular songs played by the saxophone as we enter and leave assemblies each week. Last week, we were joined by a special guest, Mr Morris, who is a saxophonist and headteacher of the Ardleigh Green Learning Federation.

Mr Morris explained the different components on a saxophone, from the Ligature (reed on the mouthpiece) to the keys. We learnt that we can remember the four types of saxophone using SAT-B: soprano, alto, tenor and baritone. Mr Morris also had two volunteers up to the front of the assembly as his conductors and as he played, the conductors had to use their hands to dictate the volume used and the length of his notes.

To finish the assembly, Mr Morris played his saxophone to "A Whole New World."

Welcome Back!

It's been a busy yet exciting few weeks at Hacton with our pupils getting to know their new teachers and settling into their new classroom and routines. Our Nursery and Reception children are now in full time so we officially have a full house! What little superstars we have here at Hacton!

Year 6: Science

Electricity is all around us, our enthusiastic Year 6 scientists have reliably informed us, in our living rooms, in our kitchens, in our classrooms and now even on the road too.  Despite its rising cost (which they were all fully aware of), the children have an understanding of just how reliant we are on it.  Surprised by its origins in nature, the children have followed its development from amber resin being rubbed by fur (Thales of Miletus), to Benjamin Franklin (and his kite experiment), then on to Thomas Edison's 'Direct Current' and finally Nikiola Telsa and his 'Alternating Current'.

This week, Year 6 have been experimenting with balloons and making and drawing circuits using the appropriate symbols.  What a ‘shocking’ first two weeks in Science!
