Another Outstanding School Year

It's been another fantastic school year at Hacton. There have been so many highlights: the outstanding progress of our pupils; brilliant school trips; impressive fundraising for charity; spectacular school productions; happy children who clearly love coming to school and, most excitingly, the move into our brand new school.

As the summer term came to a close, children and staff gathered in the hall for the final assembly of the year. Amongst laughter as we reminisced about life at Hacton there were tears of sadness and pride as our Year 6 leavers received certificates and awards in recognition of their achievements. We are very proud of the progress they have made both academically and socially and we feel confident that they are ready for the next exciting chapter of their school life. As well as saying goodbye to our Year 6 pupils, we also said a fond farewell to some members of staff who are retiring or moving on to pastures new. We wish our Year 6 children every success as they venture on to secondary school and we look forward to welcoming back the rest of our pupils in September. We hope you all enjoy a restful, fun-filled and sunny holiday.

Annual Caring and Achievement Awards

Proud parents and teachers joined our pupils in the hall for Hacton's annual Caring and Achievement assembly. Carefully chosen children were presented with awards for their academic achievement, their handwriting and their kindness throughout the year. At Hacton, we are incredibly proud of each and every one of our pupils and the way in which they represent the values of our school in the classroom, around the school and in our local community. It was an almost impossible task to select the winners, but all of the children chosen have displayed outstanding kindness or impressive progress throughout the year. Congratulations to the wonderful children who were presented with this year's caring, achievement and handwriting awards.

Year 3 Music: Mamma Mia

Year 3 have listened to and appraised many songs by Abba over the last half term. They have thoroughly enjoyed singing in cannon, using 'call and answer' and playing instruments to accompany the music. Mamma Mia was one of Year 3's favourites. One pupil summed up how their class felt about this classic tune: "it is a pop song that really makes me smile and dance around!"

Year 2: Visit to Colchester Zoo

Year 2 had a great trip to Colchester Zoo in order to support our understanding of different animals and their habitats. Our pupils were very lucky to be able to feed the giraffes and elephants.

Year 3: Fidget Spinner Mystery

After a long few days of testing, Mrs Neville's maths set were excited to become detectives and solve the fidget spinner mystery of Maryvale Primary School. The supersleuths solved 5 clues to discover the prime suspect. Some detectives fell at the first hurdle and thought that the suspect was a boy instead of a girl. Well done to those children who discovered that Poppy Peel was guilty of the heinous crime of muddling the fidget spinners.

Year 1: Fruit Salad, Yummy Yummy

As part of their healthy eating topic in DT, Year 1 created a recipe and made their very own fruit salad. The children all agreed that it was yummy yummy!

"I had a big fruit salad. It was yummy in my tummy."

"My fruit salad party was delicious and I had so much fun."

"I liked the apple because it was juicy. The grapes are so squishy."

"Banana, banana, banana!"
