Pupil Led Assembly: Gymnastics

Each week in our Key Stage 2 assembly, groups of children take over proceedings and share with the juniors something that interests them. From a favourite hobby to a country that’s been visited, we can talk about almost anything! We believe that giving children the opportunity to prepare an assembly, present to an audience and answer questions on their chosen topic, makes them feel valued and equips them with the skills required to share their interests and opinions with confidence.

This week we talked about... Gymnastics.

The Year 6 girls who led the assembly:

The presentation that they gave:

"It was a bit nerve-racking at the beginning of the assembly, but I got used to and enjoyed showing off my skills!"

"I like the way gymnastics looks and I like learning new moves... and being bendy!"

"Assembly was brilliant because it was fun. People had really good questions."

New House Captains

Cheers erupted from the hall as Mr Emes revealed the results of our house captain elections. Hopeful Year 6 pupils sat in assembly with fingers crossed, hoping to hear their name announced. Despite the high quality of presentations in delivered by all potential candidates in house meetings, there could only be 8 winners. Congratulations to our new house captains and vice captains.

House Captain Elections

Clutching their well-prepared notes and resources, a number of our brave Year 6 pupils delivered presentations in the hope of winning their houses vote for the coveted position of house captain. Children gathered in classrooms around the school to listen to the Year 6 speeches and to consider who they wanted as their house captains for this year. Congratulations to all the children who put themselves forward for captaincy; you spoke confidently and were all very persuasive. It was a hard job for children to make their voting selection, but with all votes now collated, we eagerly await the results in Monday’s assembly.

E for Effort

Every week, teachers recognise pupils in their class who have made an extra effort. These pupils are awarded the E for Effort cup in front of the whole school during our Friday morning assembly. This week, many teachers presented the cup to their entire class for a great start to the year.

Congratulations to all the wonderful children who made an extra effort last week.

Representatives from classes, alongside individual winners, explain why they were given the award:

Welcome Back

With impressive new pencil cases, smart uniforms and excited smiles our children began the school year full of energy and enthusiasm. After a hopefully enjoyable and restful summer, both staff and pupils are now looking forward to the jam-packed calendar of events that we have planned for the autumn term. As the learning journey for 2015-2016 commences, children have today been issued with their essential travel documentation: passports and boarding cards. Our year group passports outline the expectations for the year ahead and the boarding cards list experiences and suggested texts along with authors which children can enjoy throughout the year.

We would like to warmly welcome our new members of staff. These include Miss Flint (Reception), Miss Wells (Year 4) and Mr Coombes (Year 5) - all of whom report that they had a fantastic first day at Hacton. We would also like to welcome back Miss Claridge (Year 2) who returns to work following her maternity leave.

We hope you have an easy time settling back into the school routine and enjoy the start of another fun-filled school year.
