P-HIC: Art

One of our P-HIC pupils and Mrs Murphy attended a photocall for the hoarding at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub site. The fantastic design was created in collaboration with five local schools, including Hacton Primary School. Our children created a number of the wildlife pictures that decorate the hoarding, including this beautiful bird.

Achievements of the Week (w/c 20th February)

Congratulations to our Times Table winners this week! These pupils have hopped aboard the Times Table train to continue their journey to becoming a Times Table Champion. They have worked exceptionally hard to learn and master their multiplication and division facts.

Congratulations to our Reading and Poetry Superstrs this week! To achieve this award, all of these children have either read poems or books by their year group authors (Bronze is 5, Silver is 10 and Gold is 15). A big well done to this week's winners who have demonstrated great commitment and dedication to reading.

Our Achievements of the Week winners should be very proud of their success!

E for Effort and WOW! Winners (w/c 20th February)

In order to reward our pupils who have gone above and beyond in their learning each week and put in extra effort, each class teacher chooses one pupil to receive the E for Effort cup and certificate.

Here are this week's winners. Well done - we are very proud of you all!

Year 4: Indoor Athletics Competition

This week, some of our Year 4 pupils attended the Havering Indoor Athletics competition. They demonstrated fantastic teamwork skills and their determination and hard work most definitely paid off as our amazing athletes secured 1st place for Hacton. Well done!

Year 2: Space Dome

To begin Year 2's Literacy topic on Space, the children were transported into the darkness within the Space Dome. As soon as they saw the black inflatable dome, the children were filled with excitement! Once they had crawled through the tunnel, they witnessed the planets, Earth, Sun and moon as they look from space.
They were told stories of how Orion came to be in the night sky and how to spot him along with his dog Sirius. The children were also given the opportunity to look for patterns within the stars and to listen to the story of Hercules.

Once Year 2 returned to class, they designed their own planet and were then able to see it in 3D using the app Quiver, which was mesmorising. The children will now embark on using the texts 'Man on the Moon' and 'Look up' as a stimulus for some excellent writing.

Nursery: Pancake Day

Excitement filled the Nursery yesterday as the children put on their aprons to make pancakes.
The children followed the recipe and after lots of whisking, they had fun carefully flipping their pancakes! Surprisingly, only one pancake fell out of the frying pan and onto the floor! The children really enjoyed choosing their own toppings and then came the best part… eating it! Yummy!

Outdoor Learning Week

It has been a week of mud, wellies and laughter for our Hacton pupils. This week has seen the children put away their workbooks and take their learning from inside the classroom to the great outdoors. From orienteering, to treasure hunts, to toasting marshmallows around the campfire - our pupils have experienced it all!

What a fabulous way to finish off another busy half term! #Hactonoutdoorlearning

Year 4: DT

To support their DT topic, our Year 4 children participated in a DT workshop on food. After exploring where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed, our children put their skills to the test to make apple pies!

Year 2: Forest School

2MP enjoyed a wonderful campfire in the sunshine to celebrate the end of their time at Forest School. The children enjoyed toasting a marshmallow on the fire and a cup of hot chocolate. Over the last 5 weeks, the children have become confident tree climbers, super den builders and excellent chefs in the mud kitchen!

It has been wonderful to see the children working together to learn new skills.

Well done, 2MP!

Year 3: Roman Day

On Friday, Year 3 had a very special visit from a Roman soldier named Tiberus. The day was full of fun activities, including: learning how to play Roman board games, becoming archaeologists to look at real artefacts to discover more about the past and even reenacting a battle between the Romans and the Barbarians.

The children thoroughly enjoyed getting into character in their spectacular outfits and using props to recreate key moments in history! What a brilliant way to finish off our History topic for this half term!

Reception: Handa's Surprise

Following on from reading Handa's Surprise, Reception have been looking at what we can do to stay healthy: exercising, getting enough sleep and eating food which will keep us fit, strong and healthy.

Last week the children enjoyed making and tasting a fruit salad. They were particularly excited about trying some of the fruit which Handa packed in the basket for her friend Akeyo!

Hacton's Spelling Bee Competition

Over the past few weeks, Hacton has hosted its very own 'Spelling Bee' competition and it has certainly created a lot of 'buzz' across the school! Children in all year groups were selected by their class teachers and had the mission of learning their own Key Stage's specific words.
In assemblies, each group of children competed until one winner remained. To say that we were impressed is an understatement! We couldn't 'bee-lieve' how well the children had remembered the key spelling words to recite verbally in front of their peers.

Here are the winners and competitors proudly holding their certificates and prizes! Well done everybody!

The winners of this term's Spelling Bee competition are...
