Year 1 Maths Club: Triangles

Year 1 Maths Club focused on triangles this week. We had great fun discovering what happened when we placed them together. Our favourite was the hexagon wheel.

Our First Week in Nursery

The children in nursery have had lots of fun this week. They have come in for sessions all by themselves following our home visits and Stay and Play sessions with their parents and carers. The children at first were exploring their new nursery with some trepidation, but as the week has gone on, they have found lots of confidence and have all begun to make friends.

Well done Leopards, Tigers and Zebras!

New House Captains

Last week, children in Year 6 bravely stood up in front of their houses to deliver persuasive presentations explaining why they would make a good house captains. Pupils throughout the school listened to the speeches and had the opportunity to vote for their chosen candidate. All pupils spoke with confidence and maturity and the decision for their houses was a tough one. After counting the votes, the results were announced in assembly.

E for Effort

Every week, teachers recognise pupils in their class who have made an extra effort. These pupils are presented with the E for Effort cup in front of the whole school during our Friday morning assembly.

This week, many teachers awarded the cup to their entire class for settling into their new year groups brilliantly. Other teachers awarded the cup to the individual pupils pictured below.

Welcome Back

As children arrived ready for the start of the new school year, they were as excited as our staff by all the projects which have been completed inside our new school building over the summer holidays: multiplication tables have been attached to each of our staircases to support all pupils in their mental recall of these key mathematical facts along with shiny new photographs to brighten up our corridors.

With impressive new pencil cases, smart uniforms and eager smiles our children began the school year full of energy and enthusiasm. After a hopefully enjoyable and restful summer, both staff and pupils are now looking forward to the jam-packed calendar of events that we have planned for the autumn term. As the learning journey for 2017-2018 commences, children will this week be issued with their essential travel documentation: passports and boarding cards. Our year group passports outline the expectations for the year ahead and the boarding cards list experiences and suggested texts along with authors which children can enjoy throughout the year.

We would like to warmly welcome our new members of staff. These include Miss Blunt (Year 1), Mrs Wray (Year 2), Miss Bull (Year 3) all of whom report that they had a fantastic first day at Hacton.

We hope you have an easy time settling back into the school routine and enjoy the start of another fun-filled school year.

Access Arrangements from the beginning of the Autumn Term

Following meetings with the Education Funding Agency, Galliford Try and Councillors, it has been agreed to increase the number of pupil entrances to the new school from one to three.

All Nursery and Reception pupils are asked to enter via the Goodwood Avenue gates only. If children have siblings in KS1 or KS2 parents can take the elder siblings through the walkway to the KS1 playground / KS2 entrances. Pupils attending Abacus Breakfast and After School Club should also enter and leave via Goodwood Avenue gates.

All other pupils in KS1 and KS2 are asked to enter and leave via either the main Chepstow Avenue or Plumpton Avenue gates.

These 3 pedestrian entrances will allow a much safer and less congested entrance and exit from our school.

On 9th and 10th September a fence will be installed from the Nursery across the new Junior playground to make this area safe and secure for pupils and to ensure no KS1 or KS2 pupils or parents can enter or leave via this entrance.

Contractors have been working incredibly hard over the summer holiday and I am very pleased to say that our new school and grounds are now complete and look absolutely stunning.

My staff and I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday, 5th September for the start of the new school year.
