Year 1: A Very British Affair

In Geography Year One have been learning about the four countries in the UK. To celebrate the end of the unit, Year One had a very British afternoon. The children had strawberries and cream whilst watching Wimbledon, learnt about the Queen and then had an afternoon tea. The afternoon tea was the highlight of the afternoon tea and the children loved trying a scone with jam and cream.

This week the children also took part in the readers' treat for those readers who read three times every week this term. The children enjoyed a refreshing ice lolly in the sun!

Sports Day 2021

Although run slightly differently this year, our Hacton athletes had a fantastic time at our annual sports day. Running, jumping, throwing and soaking were just a few of the challenges children took on. Great fun was had by all in the glorious sunshine.

Have a Great Summer!

Have a great summer everyone! Love Hacton x

Year 6: Goodbye and Good Luck

It’s been a very emotional day for our year six pupils. Good luck at secondary school in September - we miss you already!

Year 6 Awards

Year 6 have had a fantastic morning celebrating the personalities of all the different children during their year group awards ceremony with some dancing thrown in for good measure. They are all excited and ready for their final assembly.

Year 6: Penultimate Day Shirt Signing

It was a slightly emotional afternoon yesterday afternoon watching the Year 6s signing each other's shirts in preparation for their last day today and taking the next big step in their learning journey. Lots of smiles but also a few teary eyes.

We're hoping that today, their last day, is one to remember.

Reading and Poetry Superstars (w/c 18th July)

Congratulations to our Reading and Poetry Superstrs this week! To achieve this award, all of these children have either read poems or books by their year group authors (Bronze is 5, Silver is 10 and Gold is 15). A big well done to this week's winners who have demonstrated great commitment and dedication to reading.

Our new Reading and Poetry Superstrs should be very proud of their achievement!

Times Tables Superstars (w/c 18th July)

These pupils have hopped aboard the Times Table train to continue their journey to becoming a Times Table Champion. They have worked exceptionally hard to learn and master their multiplication and division facts. Well Done!

E for Effort and WOW! Winners (w/c 18th July)

To acknowledge pupils who have gone above and beyond in their learning each week, putting in that extra effort, each class teacher chooses one pupil to receive the E for Effort cup and certificate.

For our Early Years, at the end of every week, Reception and Nursery teachers will choose a pupil from their class to receive a special WOW! certificate for outstanding achievement. This may include working hard, excellent behaviour, being a helpful member of the class or simply being kind.

Here are this week's winners! Well done to everyone!

Year 2: Tokyo 2020 Japanese Manga Art

The children in Year 2 have been learning all about the Olympic Games this week as it is the (hopeful) lead up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games beginning this Friday.

They have learnt about the history of the Olympic Games and have watched videos and seen photographs of Olympians past and present, including Sir Mo Farah, Simone Biles, Sir Chris Hoy and Laura Kenny.

We then looked at some of the new British athletes to watch out for in the coming weeks including Adam Peaty, Dina Asher-Smith and CK Ujah.  However, the overall favourite was Sky Brown, the young skateboarding champion.

To celebrate all things Japanese, the children then designed their own piece of artwork of an athlete using the Japanese manga style.

We are very proud of their work and hope that they get to watch their favourite athletes perform and win gold medals.

Go Team GB!

Year 6 Activity Week - Finale

A fabulous end to finish off the Year 6 activity week was had by all on Friday night.

The evening started off with pizzas eaten by all- margherita, pepperoni and meat feast. Safe to say Miss Emes went slightly overboard on the order!

Year 6 were fortunate enough to have Mr Manning set up a campfire. Songs were sung around the campfire; a competition was had as to which class could be the loudest- 6CE were the sure winners. Marshmallows were toasted and s'mores were made; they were delicious and everyone (including some of the adults) had a slight sugar rush!

Before the sunset, the boys played football and the girls chatted. It was wonderful to see all of their smiling faces and the sound of excited laughter!

The evening ended with an outdoor cinema provided by 'Movies and Dreams.' It really was a fantastic evening for all that attended.

It's scary knowing that the academic year is almost over, and that Year 6 have just five, short school days left at Hacton Primary School.

Nursery: Outing to the Beach

We began our topic by exploring the story ‘Mr Gumpy’s Outing' by John Burningham.

The children built their own boat and set sail, acting out the antics of the characters from the story. Their favourite part was when they tipped the boat over and got wet! They then experienced two outings: a picnic and a trip to the seaside, setting up a beach café role play area and selling pretend and real ice creams. To compliment the warm weather on Friday, we turned on a water shower and we all got extremely wet!

Oh we do like to be beside the seaside. Oh we do like to be beside the sea….

Year 6 Activity Week - Take Two

Cookie baking, pizza making and a rather large water fight.

Thursday saw the return of our Year 6's to school and what a start to being back it was!

Throughout the morning, the children made delicious chocolate chip cookies- all were consumed, and everyone gave them a massive thumbs up.

Tortilla wrap pizzas were also made with a variety of toppings- olives, pepperoni, ham, pineapple, onions, peppers. Some looked extremely professional- we may have some chefs in the making!

Paddling pools, buckets, water pistols and water bombs were scattered across the field! Laughter, screams of delight and dodging and diving away from one another were seen all afternoon. Everyone had a fantastic time and smiles were plastered on everyone's faces.

Year 6 Activity Week: Day 2

What a day!

Mosaic making. Mural painting. T-Shirt designing. Flatbread baking.

Whilst listening to 2021 top hits, Year 6 had a busy day getting creative in the hall. There were lots of wonderful designs, some more intricate than others, on a range of mediums; creativity was flowing, and the children had smiles on their faces all day. The flatbread was successfully cooked on the BBQ and tasted delicious with an assortment of dips too.

We're hoping that the weather holds out for us tomorrow!
