Christmas at Hacton 2022

Hacton has been in full party mode this week with Christmas music and festive cheer filling the corridors. After fantastic Christmas performances and a busy few weeks, what better way to finish the term!

Our younger pupils have been working exceptionally hard to make it on to the nice list this year and what better reward than to have a visit from the man himself! Wrapped up in their coats and hats, the children took the short walk up the path to Father Christmas' grotto where he was ready and waiting with sacks full of presents. The excitement and joy of knowing that Father Christmas has taken some time out of his busy schedule to visit Hacton has most certainly made their day!

We hope you all have a wonderful and festive Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Year 6: WW2 Day

Yesterday, Year 6 went back in time to explore a day in the life of those that lived during WW2. The children took part in a variety of activities: they made ration style carrot cookies, created personalised Christmas crackers, decorated 3D Christmas decorations and made Anderson shelter dioramas.

Everyone made a real effort and looked fantastic in their costumes!

Year 1: Christmas Elf

Since the start of December, some mischievous elves have been causing havoc in Year 1! Today, the troublesome elves wrapped up members of the Year 1 team! Thankfully, the children were on hand to save the day!

Year 1: Computing

Last week, Year 1 had great fun learning how to programme robots to move forwards, backwards and to turn. In groups, the children were challenged to programme their Beebot to move from the start point to a Christmas item.

What fantastic programmers you are, Year 1!

Congratulations to our Times Table winners this week! These pupils have hopped aboard the Times Table train to continue their journey to becoming a Times Table Champion. They have worked exceptionally hard to learn and master their multiplication and division facts.

Congratulations to our Reading and Poetry Superstrs this week! To achieve this award, all of these children have either read poems or books by their year group authors (Bronze is 5, Silver is 10 and Gold is 15). A big well done to this week's winners who have demonstrated great commitment and dedication to reading.

Awesome Attendance Winners (w/c 5th December)

At Hacton, we have introduced a celebration of our attendance. Each week, as part of our assembly, we will announce who the Awesome Attendance winners are. They will get to have our Attendance cup for the week and will be rewarded with a treat in recognition of their fabulous attendance.

See below for last week’s figures:

Year 2: Literacy

The children in Year 2 have been reading the book 'Winter Sleep' by Sean Taylor and Alex Morss. From the initial illustration on the front cover, the children were tasked with writing a poem about winter using the five senses. They could choose from an acrostic poem called 'Winter' or a non-rhyming poem entitled 'Winter Walk'.

Once the children had finished their poems, they were able to showcase their beautiful handwriting using a pen! Well done, Year 2! Keep up the excellent effort!

Nursery: Letters to Santa

This week, our Nursery children visited the local post box to post their letters to Santa. Excitement filled the air as the children stretched up on their tip toes to ensure their letters went safely inside the box. All the letters are now on their way to Santa and soon the children will be watching out for the postman to see if they get a reply.

A big thank you from our Nursery children and staff to all of our parent helpers.

Year 5 and 6: Havering Indoor Athletics Competition

This week, some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils attended the Havering Indoor Athletics competition. They demonstrated fantastic teamwork skills and enthusiasm throughout every event - what fantastic representatives for our school! Their determination and hard work most definitely paid off as our amazing athletes secured 3rd place for Hacton. Well done!

Year 6: Science

This week, our spectacular Year 6 scientists put on shadow plays (an ancient form of storytelling) using flat cut-out figures (shadow puppets), which are held between a source of light and a translucent screen.

As a part of our light topic, the children were challenged to identify how shadows are created, thinking about which materials would cast the most defined shadow and where the light should be placed to ensure the characters were aptly sized. Much fun was had, especially as the traditional tales - which were performed - included some hilarious Year 6 twists!
