Once upon a time, there was a school called Hacton Primary who celebrated Literacy Week with a fairy tale theme. This fantastic week in school explored spellbinding stories, their heroes and villains, monsters and maidens, magic and enchantments. After days filled with exciting activities, our pupils gathered together in assembly to share what they had learnt. Thank you to parents for dressing children in brilliant, colourful costumes which helped to provide a fairy tale ending to the week.

Havering Infant Music Festival
Our Year 2 pupils had a fantastic morning at Branfil Primary School taking part in the Havering Infant Music Festival. Hacton joined children from Branfil, Langtons, Oakfields and Upminster Infant School to sing songs to each other and the Mayor of Havering. Following the music festival theme of 'on the move', our pupils very much enjoyed performing their energetic rendition of "Petrol Makes the Racing Car Go".

Year 5: Orienteering Festival
Year 5 were invited to take part in an orienteering festival at Stubbers Adventure Centre. The excitement of a coach journey, a morning in the brisk spring air and mud was almost overwhelming, but the children managed to behave themselves beautifully and took part in the event with gusto. First came the briefing, followed by the warm up and then they were ready to go.
Armed with special orienteering electronic readers, the children had to find their way around a 1.3km course, with their team, as quickly as they could. Most returned with ruddy cheeks and with beaming grins; however, all of them returned considerably muddier than they set out!
At the end of the morning, the children were once again gathered together so that the podium finishing places could be announced. All was silent before the announcement was broadcast that out of 31 teams Hacton’s Compass Pointers claimed 3rd place whilst Hacton’s Ninja Navigators claimed the 2nd spot. Amazing!
Well done to all of our Year 5 pupils who not only displayed great orienteering skills, but who were also super representatives of our school.

Pupil Spotlight: A Traditional Irish Tune
Just in time for St. Patrick’s day, some of our marvellous musicians from Year 6 performed a traditional Irish tune in whole school assembly. They played with flair and confidence in front of the rest of the school and were rewarded with a big round of applause from their appreciative audience. Well done girls!
We hope you enjoy their performance as much as we did.

Year 1: Jungle Animals
As part of their Design and Technology work on sculptures, Year 1 have been making jungle animals from recyclables that were donated by parents. Sticky tape, glue and terrific teamwork were added to create their colourful creatures. The children were rightly proud as they posed with their super sculptures.

Year 3 Computing: Learning About Email
Year 3, have been learning about email. They have been emailing famous people using Purple Mash and replying by answering their questions and even adding attachments. They also received emails regarding online safety and chose the best reply possible. The children now know that if they receive an email with the subject ‘You’ve won £1000’ that it is spam that should be deleted. Year 3 were reminded that they should never enter personal information onto unknown websites and that they should not respond to an email received from a stranger, they should report the email to an adult.

Friday 2nd March: The School is Closed
We are sorry to inform you that we will be closed tomorrow. This is not a decision that has been taken lightly.
Although weather conditions for tomorrow are forecast to be no worse than today, when as you are aware we opened, snow is forecast for the afternoon and temperatures are unlikely to reach above freezing.
Taking into account the fact that over 120 children did not come to school today and numerous parents complained about the fact that we were open, we have taken the decision to close.
We appreciate that this is difficult for working parents; however, by making this decision this afternoon, we hope to have given you time to make arrangements.
