Inter-House Netball

As temperatures soared this afternoon, pupils in KS2 took to the netball court to battle it out in the annual Inter-House Netball competition. Raucous cheers echoed around the playground as the teams (consisting of children from each year group) played valiantly for the honour of their house team. The action was end to end, with Frankie, Shane, Megan and Evie proving to be some of the goal scoring heroes. With a mexican wave sweeping round the playground, Yellow team eventually romped to victory! Congratulations to the House Captains for arranging the smooth running of the event and special thanks to Mrs Chisnall for refereeing the matches, Rosie for time keeping, William as linesman and Isabella for scoring. Despite being placed fourth, Blue team demonstrated the true spirit of the occasion through their remarkable sportsmanship, well done Charlie and Ellen!

Play in a Day

Is this a Royal visit to Hacton Primary? No, it's members of Year 3 and 4 performing at their Play in a Day workshop on Monday. All four classes acted out key scenes from the Queen's life including her coronation, Kate and William's wedding and her Jubilee celebrations. Oscar-winning performances all round!

Jubilee Cakes and Biscuits

What a busy Tuesday afternoon Year 4 has had! As well as researching facts about Commonwealth countries using the iPads, we also found time to decorate Jubilee cakes and biscuits. Our sparkly crown biscuits and Union Jack cakes won't last long this evening - the children's mouths were watering as they took them home!

Tennis: Through to the Borough Finals

Yesterday afternoon (Monday 28th May), Alfie, Ciara, Evie and Taylor represented Hacton at a borough mini-tennis tournament at Cranston Park Tennis Club in Upminster. Despite the heat, the children played six games each, against each other and other pupils from Upminster schools. The team did very well and got through to the Borough finals to be held on 13th June. The winners of the final will go through to a London-wide final at Crystal Palace. Could it be that we have a future Wimbledon winner in Year 4?

Jubilee Week

To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, we have a week packed with fun activities. Class work will focus on the Queen’s life with research and writing about the Commonwealth and the different decades of her 60 year reign. Out of the classroom, children are sure to enjoy bouncing around during the dance-inspired Zumba workout sessions that we are holding on Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, excited cheers will fill the playground during our inter-house netball tournament and throughout the week pupils will take on the challenge set by the School Council of running 60 laps of the school track in 60 minutes. We also have visits from a theatre company and the London Fire Brigade.

On Friday, our celebrations will culminate in a Jubilee street party on the school field. Children will be encouraged to dress in a combination of red, white and blue and each year group will perform a dance from a decade of Queen Elizabeth 2’s reign. We hope this is an informative and enjoyable week for all our pupils before the bank-holiday weekend celebrations and a well deserved half-term break.

Netball: Hacton 8 - 5 Towers

Last night we played Towers Junior School at netball and Team A successfully won 8-5 with a fantastic line up of players (including Isabella and Grace who scored the winning goals). We then had a second match which resulted in a draw of 2-2 with Megan scoring both of the goals. Overall it was a fantastic game which wouldn't have been possible without the support from staff, friends and family but most importantly Mrs Chisnall, Mrs Seymour and Mrs Jacobs.

Biscuits by Year 5

Year 5 have been really busy this week! Not only have 5PS held a cake sale, both classes have also made dozens of delicious biscuits. After six weeks of research and design, we were finally able to put our knowledge to use in the kitchen. The irresistible smell of sweet, sugary biscuits hovered through the corridors whilst the ovens were on overdrive! Marshmallows, melted chocolate, icing, jams and all kinds of extra ingredients adorned our biscuits before we took photos of our final products. Resisting the temptation to sample our biscuits was near impossible as we evaluated our culinary delights. We couldn’t wait to get home and take the taste test!

Maths in the Sunshine

A well timed ‘Data Handling’ week in Year 5 (top set) Maths meant we were all outside, basking in the glorious sunshine. We are learning about line graphs so we set out to collect accurate data. Firstly, we set up our equipment on the hot surface of the playground and got to work. Measuring, counting and recording enabled us to gather the information we needed for the following lesson. Cooling off in the shade, we compared our findings and calculated the mean averages for our final results. Now we are ready to construct a line graph and we will be able to interpret our data. It was great working together and being in the fresh air, even if we were a little worried about the sun’s rays!

Panda Fever!

What a success! Even the sun shone on Class 5PS as they held a cake sale outside their classroom during playtime and lunchtime. Plates upon plates were carefully carried into school full of beautifully decorated home-made cakes in order to raise money to adopt a panda. So successful were the pupils that a staggering £100 was raised! Zane, Abby, Ameraye and Roxie (the organisers behind the event) were thrilled to learn that their fundraising would allow Hacton School to adopt not one, not two, but THREE pandas for one year! A big thank you to everyone involved.

SATs Week Treat

Congratulations to all the Year 6 children on completion of this year's SATs week. Sparks flew as pens and pencils worked furiously to complete each paper. Brows were mopped and biscuits shared as the conscientious children ploughed their way through the Maths and English tests. As a reward for their best efforts, all the children enjoyed a well earned extended P.E. lesson at Hacton Park on Friday morning. Well done Year 6!

Year 6 SATs

This week children in Year 6 undertake National Curriculum Tests in the core subjects of English and Maths (SATs). All the children have worked incredibly hard to prepare, with many attending Booster sessions before school during the Spring Term. We wish all the children every success and remind them to have early nights and a healthy breakfast! Good luck Year 6!
