Year 1: Road Safety

October 19, 2021

This half term in Geography, Year One have been learning about 'Our Local Area'. This has included learning about modes of transport, what a pedestrian is, the Green Cross Code and road signs.

Last week, the children used a giant 5ft zebra crossing to practise crossing the road safely. We also talked about the four key commands when crossing a road: Think, Stop, Look and Listen, then Cross.

Yesterday, the children went on a slightly modified walk to explore road signs. They were so excited as they hunted around the school field for road signs that had been hidden earlier that morning. They found and identified the road signs which we can see on the roads surrounding Hacton, including: speed bumps ahead, 20mph and school ahead.
