Year 2: Bread Making

September 13, 2021

To begin our History topic on The Great Fire of London, the children in Year 2 experienced making bread rolls from scratch. They used traditional ingredients and were shown how to make the rolls by hand. They enjoyed mixing, kneading, rolling and shaping their bread dough into a design ready to be baked in the oven.

This week, the children will learn about how Thomas Farriner baked his bread for his bakery in 1666 and how this compares to modern times. They will discuss the dangers in the past and how this led to the start of the Great Fire.

This was a fun, enjoyable, tasty and engaging way to begin our History topic in Year 2. We just hope they tasted as good at home as they smelt in school!
