Year 1: Exploring the Five Senses

September 22, 2021

Our Year 1 children were very excited to start our new Science topic. We talked about Science being a lesson where we learn about the world around us.

Last week, we learnt about the different parts of the body, including elbows, shoulders, ankles and wrists. This week, the children have been learning about the five senses. To explore these, we went on a walk around the school playground and field to see what we could see, hear, smell and touch. The children even took a piece of fruit with them to taste!

Here are some of their ideas:
  • Touch: We could touch the grass, leaves, acorns and trees
  • See: We could see some beautiful dandelions, the blue sky and tall trees
  • Smell: We could smell our lunches cooking and the flowers
  • Hear: We could hear some birds when we listened very quietly and we could hear children talking

What a great walk Year 1 had!
