Year 2: Mosque Visit

June 06, 2025

To support the Year 2 pupils' teaching in RE about Islam, the children travelled on the train to Barking to visit the Al Madina Mosque. Inside, they first of all took off their shoes as a sign of respect before being led into the large prayer hall. They met a volunteer who gave the pupils a talk about the religion, the customs and some stories from the Qur'an. They were then treated to a demonstration of the call to prayer before being given the opportunity to sit in the Minbar and say a few words to the 'audience.' Following on from this, they were shown the Wudu and other features of the Mosque before coming back to school.

This visit will help support our topic of Christianity in which we will visit St. Andrew's Church to compare and contrast the features and customs between the two religions.
