Year 6 visited the RAF Heritage Museum in Hornchurch to enrich their knowledge of WW2. The children were shown around different rooms, including: the Officers' mess, the Homefront room and the WAAF room. As each room had a different focus, they were full of different stories, artefacts, pictures and mannequins for the children to explore.
The children also had the opportunity to try on different outfits from WWII and they enjoyed handling artefacts, including an old fireplace that was leant on by RAF Hornchurch pilots! One of the highlights of the day was experiencing the loud alert of an air-raid siren! In addition to all that the museum had to offer, our children loved hearing the stories told by our local historians. Some of our children also had the privilege of meeting an evacuee who, through their speech, was able to really bring the experience of WW2 to life. The trip really was an eye-opening experience.
