As part of being on the School Council, the members are taken to the Houses of Parliament for a guided tour and workshop.
The pupils were given a tour by our knowledgeable guide, Scott, who showed us the old House of Commons, the statues of past prime ministers, the MP's letter boxes and the Palace of Westminster. On our visit, there was lots of action as it was the day of Prime Minister Questions, so the Houses of Commons and Lords were out of bounds. This did not dampen our their enthusiasm and Scott commented after our tour that 'your pupils were the most interesting, well-behaved and inquisitive children he has shown round in his three years of working at Parliament.'
This accolade was very well-deserved as they then embarked on an hour long workshop, in which the children had to work as teams to learn more about how laws are made, how the houses work together and the King's involvement in the process.
We were then treated to a surprise question time with Julia Lopez's assistant, who spoke about some of the things they are doing to improve life in the area our children live.
It was a very rewarding morning and the children were a credit to us as a school and to you as parents.
