Year 6 Science: Light

December 11, 2020

How Do We See? Wow, what a question?

After discussing our ideas, Year 6 decided the best way to develop their understanding was to model how light travels in rays, or beams, from a light source, reflecting off of an object and then travelling into our eyes. They were intrigued to learn more about how light travels in waves - as in their view the word ‘waves’ infers an up and down movement.

Using torches, mirrors and cards, the children constructed an investigation in an attempt to actually see these straight waves with their own eyes. In their investigation, the torch provided the incident light, which reflected off of the mirror to produce a reflected light, allowing the children to clearly witness the straight waves in which light travels.
