Literacy Week: The Good Wolf

March 05, 2013
Author Derek Smith visited Hacton for the second day of Literacy Week. Derek discussed some of his books and the inspiration behind them. To fit in with the theme of our villains week, he read extracts from his story 'The Good Wolf' with live piano accompaniment. After leaving the story at a cliffhanger, Derek explained how the wolf could be a misunderstood character. Children were invited to guess how the wolf could escape the wrath of angry villagers. In the end, rather surprisingly, the woodcutter came to his rescue.

Later in the day, Derek worked with Year 6 and the two classes looked at alternate viewpoints in the form of letters from pirates. Evie and Lucy in Year 6 said that "the songs in the morning were interesting and the cliffhanger kept us guessing."
