Year 2: Science

October 11, 2024
This term we have been learning about Everyday Materials and their properties. The children learnt about the scientist Charles Macintosh, who 200 years ago invented the waterproof fabric used to make raincoats, hence the name Macintosh's or Macs!

The children were tasked with investigating four different materials for their absorbency to find the best material to make a tent for a teddy. They used pieces of material stretched over a transparent beaker with pipettes and water to test which material was most waterproof. The children were good at making predictions, testing them and then learning that its OK for a prediction to be incorrect.

They drew conclusions at the end of the investigation and used some excellent scientific vocabulary!
