Year 2: Ford Dunton Visit

June 29, 2023

As part of our DT topic in Year 2, the children were tasked with designing and making their own shoe box vehicle. This year, we were supported by Ford (Dunton) and their Primary Engineer project in which an engineer came into school to support the process of building each of the vehicles.

Before Easter, the pupils worked in groups of three to design and build their vehicle. It had to include a safety feature for a toy, have a clear purpose and had to withhold rigorous testing on a ramp.
Following this, each teacher had to select one group per class to attend the annual celebration event at Ford.

Mrs. Stephenson took the budding engineers to the event. Throughout the morning, the children were interviewed by vehicle engineers and had to test their vehicles on a ramp. They did extremely well and although we did not win any awards, they fully immersed themselves into the experience.

A big thank you to Peter Wilkins for being the Hacton engineer! We look forward to working with him again next year to hopefully find some engineers of the future!
