Year 6 Science: The Digestive System

March 25, 2021

Year 6 enjoyed learning about the digestive system this week. They had the chance to draw around a human body, draw the organs involved in the digestive system and the important roles they play. The children were absolutely shocked to learn and see that the small intestines are a whopping 6.5m long compared to the large intestines that is only 1.5m long. Other key information they learnt included how it takes 24 hours for our body to digest food; the digestive system from start to finish is 9m long and that it only takes 7 seconds for food to travel from our mouth, down our oesophagus and into our stomach!

It was great to see children identifying where some of our organs are and listening to them explain the organs each play in helping our body digest food and ensure we have all the nutrients we need from the different food.

Well done Year 6!
