P-HIC Science: Bouncing Eggs

What came first the rubber chicken or the rubber egg?

How to Make an Egg Bounce!

Year 1 and 2 PHIC children enjoyed investigating what happens to an egg when it is left in vinegar. The children monitored the reaction that the acid created on the shell of the egg. They observed bubbling, expanding and dissolving.  After 24 hours, the shell had fully dissolved leaving the egg translucent allowing a torch to shine light through it.  The only part remaining was the membrane which made the egg bounce! The children managed to bounce the egg from a height of 50 cm before our experiment ended in a splat!
