School Council: Democracy in Action

January 24, 2024

The school council members met with Mrs Stephenson last week to discuss a very important task. Miss Emes is in the process of purchasing some new playground marking games for the KS2 playground and she couldn't decide which to choose. There are six excellent designs to choose from of which we can hopefully afford three.

Therefore, we have tasked the school council members to lead their class in a vote for the most popular so that the pupils can democratically decide. As the children said, 'It will be us using the equipment, so we should vote.'

The children were very enthusiastic to go back to class and lead this important task. Questions raised in the meeting were: 'What if everyone votes the same as their friends?' and 'What if some people in my class are absent, will they still get to vote?' The school council members are already thinking about the British value of democracy and how it should be open and equal to all.

Well done to our School Council team and good luck!
Watch this space to find out which three we will be purchasing!
