Year 3 have been using the book Escape from Pompeii (linking their literacy to the history topic of The Romans) to write descriptive paragraphs about the city of Pompeii as well as rewriting the story in comic form. They also watched a short computer animation of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79CE and used events in the film to write some amazing descriptive paragraphs about what happened, using personification to bring their writing to life as well as practising using a range of fronted adverbials to open sentences. To help them understand the power of Mount Vesuvius, they built volcanoes in teams before taking them outside to watch them erupt!
