Year 3 Science: Light

March 02, 2017
Year 3 have recently been introduced to their brand new Science topic: light. So far, they have learnt about the importance of light and the science of how we see. They have discovered that the moon is not a light source, it is a reflector. They have also learnt to think more scientifically and to realise that a window should not be considered a light source: the light source is the sun and it shines through allowing us to see better when the curtains are open!

This week, our super scientists conducted an experiment to see which materials reflect light best. They constructed their very own 'reflector testers' from white card and a torch. Four different materials were tested. Our excellent experimenters found that tin foil and silver paper were the best reflectors. Dull items and black card were not efficient reflectors of light.

Year 3 have found the start of their new science topic illuminating!
