Year 5 braved the dreary weather, busy commuter trains and a very steep hill to visit the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. First on the schedule was a wonderfully immersive show at the planetarium. Then, they had the opportunity to explore the interactive rooms, stepping back in time to learn about the history of astronomy and space exploration. The children touched one of the oldest objects in the world: a 4.5 billion-year-old meteorite formed around the same time as the Earth and the Sun. To round off the day, Year 5 climbed up to the top of the observatory to see the large equatorial telescope. The children all agreed that their visit to the Royal Observatory was out of this world!
