Year 6 PE: The Charleston

In PE, Year 6 had a taste of dancing the Charleston. Over 4 weeks they learnt many traditional Charleston moves including swivel hips, touch step, knee knocks and partner work. The most enjoyable step was 'Happy Feet' because the children found the motion and complexity quite challenging. To bring the unit to an end, both classes shared their final piece with each other, demonstrating their skills and understanding of traditional Charleston dancing.

Literacy Week Poetry Competition

Well done to all the wonderful wordsmiths who entered our Literacy Week poetry competition; over 80 pupils submitted an entry and it was very difficult to choose our favourites. For originality, careful language selection and poems which captured their audience, a winner from each year group was chosen and rewarded with their own poetry anthology.

Literacy Week

On the last day of Literacy Week, our school was transformed into a living library as characters such as Harry Potter, the Cat in the Hat, Little Red Riding Hood and Where’s Wally appeared to have leapt from the pages of their books. Pupils and staff clearly relished the opportunity to dress as their favourite literary characters, filling the day with a joyful energy.

Literacy Week concluded with a whole school assembly and a super celebration of poetry: each year group performed a range of poems written by their year group poet along with their own interpretations of well-loved favourites. Laughter, rhythm and lyrical rapping resounded around the hall as the fantastic week came to an end. Thank you parents for sending your children to school in wonderful costumes.
